Service Learning Trips

Legacy runs TEN Day Service Trips to South Africa and eSwatini in partnership with Thirst Project for students to get an experiential learning opportunity to better understand global issues and see firsthand the impact students can have on the world today. Service Trips include FIVE key elements to help grow and develop our students as leaders and agents of change. give students a better understanding of the world around them. These trip elements, along with the dates and logistics of the trips are below!

 

TRIP COST

$1500 + Airfare (Roundtrip to eSwatini)

*The $1500 includes all Lodging, Meals, Ground Transportation, Safari, Supplies, Trip Insurance, Guides/Staff and additional Tourism Activities. You can expect Airfare to be an additional $1500-$2500.*

 

PARTICIPANTS

Any student, teacher, or parent affiliated with Legacy or its Partner Thirst Project.

Below includes a brief description of each itinerary category above.

LOCAL LEADERSHIP TRAINING:

Students will travel around eSwatini to learn from local leaders in different sectors including Government, Health, Education, Community Development. Students will have the opportunity to connect with leaders from the Ministry of Health and Natural Resources, Principals and Leaders of Primary and Secondary Schools, Doctors and Nurses from different Medical Professions, and more.

PEER TO PEER LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE

Students will visit the University of eSwatini for a full day Leadership Training workshop. Legacy Staff and staff from the University of eSwatini will cohost an interactive leadership training where Legacy students will connect with and collaborate alongside University of eSwatini students on different leadership initiatives, including goal setting, strategic planning, project based learning and more.

SERVICE PROJECTS

Trip participants will participate in different service projects to give back to the country and communities of eSwatini. These projects include building a borehole well in partnership with Thirst Project and visiting a Refugee Camp.

CULTURAL IMMERSION ACTIVITIES

Trip participants will get the opportunity to experience the culture of eSwatini and South Africa in many different ways, including visiting the famous Mantenga Cultural Village, participating in the traditional Reed Dance, touring different agricultural operations, and experiencing the art, music, and food culture of eSwatini.

TOURISM

Trip participants will do a Safari in the world famous Kruger National PARK. Students will also get to visit the second biggest rock in the world, Sibebe Rock in eSwatini for a sunset hike and dinner.
