ABOUT GENDER EQUALITY
Gender equality is defined as when people of all genders have equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities. Everyone is affected by gender inequality – women, men, trans and gender diverse people, children and families. Our world needs gender equality urgently as it prevents violence against women and girls and is essential for economic prosperity. Societies that value women and men as equal are safer and healthier. Gender equality is a human right because everyone benefits from gender equality.
132 million girls across the world are currently unable to attend school.
Too often, girls are denied an education, told who and when to marry, and blocked from leadership. Educated and respected girls are the exception, not the norm.
ABOUT SHE’S THE FIRST
With a vision to create a world where ever girl chooses her own future, She’s the First (STF) believes in using a rights-based approach to empower and educate girls globally. After more than a decade of building trust with communities, this organization excels in strengthening the ecosystem of girl organizations and advancing girl-led advocacy. STF strengthens this ecosystem by providing:
- Training in feminist mentorship, strong sexual and reproductive health and rights education, and girl-centered programs.
- Flexible funding for members of their STF Partner Coalition
- A Global Network for Practitioners.
- Tools, Curricula, and Resources for organizations to strengthen their girl-centered programming.
STF’s community is made up of advocates and changemakers; ambitious students and dedicated teachers; inspiring artists and seasoned policymakers; resilient mothers and feminist fathers; community organizers and business leaders that come from many countries and backgrounds, but our differences are not nearly as important as what we share—a belief that every girl, no matter where she is born, deserves to be educated, respected, and heard.
HERE’S HOW STUDENTS HAVE TAKEN ACTION
In 2023, Legacy teamed up with She’s The First which provides FREE educational and life-changing supplies to young girls all around the world, to make it as easy as possible to get menstrual products into the hands of the young girls who need it most!
All students had to do was stitch our TikTok video here, telling us how they’ve personally seen gender inequality impact their own everyday life, or someone they know. Creating a dialogue around gender inequality is one of the first steps to building a more gender-equal world.
Every student who stitched a video automatically unlocked a $10 donation that Legacy made on their behalf, to “Girls First Institute” by She’s the First. This fund provides life-changing supplies and education opportunities to girls in the Global South.
$10 = 1 MONTH FREE MENSTRUAL PRODUCTS
Through student participation, by the end of the campaign, 500 girls were able to gain access to menstrual products for one month, breaking down the barrier between gender and education.
